It is March. The name of the month itself implies movement.

In Rejuvenation: A 4-week Mini-Adventure, we talk about each season having its own rhythm.  Details HERE.

During winter we naturally begin to slow down. We do less. We dream more. We make vision boards, write out goals, consider new possibilities.

It is like we are weaving a web of possibilities. And winter feels like just the right time to do that.

While Springtime is when we begin planting seeds and taking the steps needed to have a fruitful yield.

Web vs. Step

According to Shirley Ann Jackson, physicist, the first African-American women to earn a doctorate from MIT in ANY field and the current President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in her interview with Oprah Magazine, women collect more data, assemble the data into patterns and weigh more options while making decisions. Shirley calls this “Web Thinking”.

Winter is a perfect time for Web Thinking.

Men, on the other hand, do what Shirley Ann calls “Step Thinking”. They focus on what they consider relevant and then move forward in a more linear fashion.

They step, or march forward.

Springtime is perfect for “Step Thinking”.

Of course, men do “Web Thinking” and women do “Step Thinking”. The thing is, as women, we want to make sure we lean away from our strong suit of “Web Thinking” and lean into “Step Thinking” when the time calls for it.

  • Have you been thinking about a job change?
  • Do you want to start a side hustle?
  • Have you been dreaming of asking for a promotion?

The time has come to MARCH.

Less web and more step.
