This month was different.
The Touchstone was Purpose, and I couldn’t seem to get my head around it.
- Is your purpose the same as your mission?
- Is your purpose logical and practical?
- Is your purpose the same as your goal?
I kept playing with the word. I even considered changing it because it felt so mercurial.
Then I came up with what I thought was a pretty darn good idea that I could work with on what your purpose is and it started with what a purpose is not.
Purpose is not WHAT you do.
That’s your mission.
Purpose is not WHERE you’re headed.
Those are your goals.
Purpose is not HOW you do something.
Those are your strategies and actions.
What Your Purpose Is … Part 1
Your purpose is the WHY beneath what you do. It is the intention, meaning, the reason underneath the whats, wheres, and hows.
I felt pretty good about where I had landed, but the word continued to work inside of my subconscious even as I brought a FIND YOUR PURPOSE exercise to the Alchemists.
The exercise was strong.
Thinking about your purpose as the WHY beneath what you do was correct. It is what many other people have landed on when considering purpose.
Yet I just knew there was something more.
Something deeper.
There is an overarching Purpose with a capital “P”.
I just needed a bit more time to let my Spiritual Board of Advisors download clarity on what the Purpose with a capital ‘P” actually was.

The clarity came as I was talking to another client about the topic. She had been unable to make the CAA call so I walked her through the process of the Whats, Wheres, Hows and her WHY or purpose with a small “p”.
I gave her an example from my work:
This is WHAT I do: Coach women
This is HOW I do it: Through private coaching and Career Alchemy Academy. (webinars, events, writing …)
WHERE I am Headed (the Outcome) of what I do: To share my wisdom, have fun, make a difference and create income to sustain my life.
This is Why I coach? To use my gifts, skills, and abilities to help women feel confident, clear, and ready to go after their dreams, make great money and have lots of fun!
Then the download arrived.
I realized that, for me, there is an even deeper Purpose.
Perhaps our Purpose (with a capital “P”) is to use our gifts, abilities, and skills in ways that Spread Love in the world.
Every thought you have, every word of wisdom you share, every action you take, is an opportunity to SPREAD LOVE and that is Purpose, your WHY, with a capital “P”.
The framework of finding your purpose now includes finding your Purpose and looks more like this:

This is Why I coach? (purpose with a small “p”) To use my gifts, skills, and abilities to help women feel confident, clear, and ready to go after their dreams, make great money and have lots of fun!
THIS is my PURPOSE (with a capital “P”): To use my gifts, skills and abilities through the work I do in the world to SPREAD LOVE in all its highest forms.
When we walked through this new framework with my client, she had a realization.
She could ripple out waves of love in a world that could really use it right now.
That understanding reinvigorated her job search. She was ready to apply for more roles.
Because … she is not only looking for a job to pay the bills and use her gifts, abilities and skills to make a difference and have fun doing it.
There is something bigger going on.
Through her career (and by applying for jobs) she is SPREADING LOVE.
