A simple daily practice that helps you trust your inner wisdom, focus on what matters most, and end your day feeling satisfied.
One of the tools I coach my clients to use is a different version of a to-do list.
I call it your 3 Daily VIPs. VIP is an acronym for Very Important Priority. Your 3 VIPs are not your to-do list though they could be on your to-do list.
Your 3 VIPs are the 3 things you will do today that leave you feeling satisfied, accomplished and great about your day.
Creating your 3 Daily VIPs is surprisingly simple. And somehow…a little magical.
How to Create Your 3 Daily VIPs
The key to creating your 3 VIPs is not to think too hard.
You do not need to look at your to-do list or your calendar.
Trust me, you know what is on there. You know you will get done what needs to get done. You are not the smart, accomplished career woman that you are because you left things undone.
This isn’t about getting more done. It’s about getting the right things done.
The 3 VIPs Process is different. It creates something different inside your daily routine. Your VIPs begin with your inner wisdom … not your inbox, your calendar, or everyone else’s priorities.
Because Career Alchemists are always looking for more ways to build trust with and act from their inner guidance system. The 3 VIPs Process helps with this.
You simply ask yourself this question:
“What are the 3 things I need to get done by the end of the day to feel satisfied, and happy about today?”
Then. Listen.
What does your inner voice suggest should be the 3 VIPs?
You might be very surprised. Like I was.
One morning I had my pink post it note out and was ready to write down my 3 VIP’s (no fancy tech required for my 3 VIPs).
I asked the question “What are the 3 things I need to get done by the end of the day to feel satisfied and happy about today?”
The first thing my inner voice offered was to make an oil change appointment.
Huh?
Totally unexpected.
But the moment that thought arrived, I felt my whole body relax.
I’d been putting off that appointment for weeks. It was taking up far more mental space than the five minutes it would take to schedule it.
Sometimes our inner wisdom doesn’t ask us to do the biggest thing.
Sometimes it asks us to remove the pebble in our shoe.
And who knows? Maybe I avoided a much bigger repair. Or maybe my inner wisdom simply knew that carrying around one more unfinished thing was draining energy I needed elsewhere.
The other VIPs were more of what you would expect and were already on my to-do list. The VIP Process just moved them up in my day. I tackled them right after I got my oil change appointment set.
More VIP Magic
Recently, a coaching client signed up for another 6 months of coaching after taking 6 months off.
She said my voice was often in her head. I was curious how and she said she would often hear me remind her to use the 3 VIPs Process.
She said that she had continued to use the tool to help keep her focused on the things that she wants to make sure to put attention on at work and in her personal life.
She also said there was an unanticipated bonus.
She told me something I wasn’t expecting.
She had started a routine of looking back through her old VIPs. This led to the realization that they had become more than a daily planning tool. They had become a record of what mattered to her.
They reminded her of what she cared about at that point in time. It showed her what she had been working on and what she built because of the VIP process. It showed her progress.
That’s when it hit me.
VIPs don’t just create a productive day … they create meaningful careers built on tuning in to your inner wisdom and asking it for guidance.
You become your most trusted advisor, creating satisfying days not because you crossed the most things off your to-do list but because you listened to yourself and followed that guidance first.
