Today, Thursday, is my self-imposed deadline to complete my blog for the newsletter that goes out on Monday.
I’d like to get it done on Thursdays, so I have time to sleep on the final product before we send it out on Monday.
That works great when I have something to write about, but this week, nothing has really landed. I have a couple ideas, and I might use them at some point, but for some reason, they’re just not feeling like the idea.
And I know this is not unusual for both CEOs as well as women inside of corporate America.
We have work that needs to get done but aren’t feeling inspired to actually do it.
Sometimes, like with me, it could be because we need ideas and the ideas are just not coming or, perhaps, we need a little bit of motivation, and it is in short supply.
Here’s what I did to help kickstart my inspiration and motivation.
5 Steps. 1 Mini Vacation. A Meeting with My Spiritual Board of Advisors.
Step 1: I walked away from my desk. I’d had enough of staring at the screen.
Step 2: I found a place where I could take a “mini vacation”. I even took a video of me on my mini vacation which felt like fun. Link here.
Step 3: I got quiet. I asked my Spiritual Board of Advisors (SBOA) what I might write about in the upcoming newsletter. My SBOA are part of the Higher Consciousness and I imagine they are sitting around a table offering ideas and perspectives when I ask.
Step 4: I did nothing. I enjoyed my back patio, the warmth of the sun, the birds flying over, the colorful flowers and listened. It was during this time of doing nothing but enjoying nature and listening to my inner voice that I heard it. “You’re not the only one that feels uninspired about the work that needs to be done. Maybe write about that”
Step 5: Then I did something. I stayed right where I was, pulled out my phone and began to write what you’re reading right now.
The interesting thing wasn’t that I suddenly became more motivated.
The interesting thing was that inspiration didn’t show up while I was trying harder.
It showed up when I stopped trying to force it and was quiet enough to hear what my SBOA had to offer.
Simply notice when we’re feeling less than enthusiastic. Find a place to take a mini vacation. Tune in to the inner guidance that is always there waiting to inspire with a message or sign that gets us going.
Here’s to tuning in to our SBOA to inspire the outer work … and taking more mini vacations!
