5 Spirit-Centered Steps to Letting Go of Money Worries

I recently read a letter to love that Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love and The Signature of Things, wrote on her Substack site.

She was talking about worry. Here is the paragraph that got me thinking about my relationship with worry.

To worry about someone is actually not an act of love. To worry about someone is an attempt at control. Worry is in fact a way to avoid love, because the worried mind does not want to feel —cannot bear to feel — the exquisite, keening, heartbreaking, vulnerable tenderness of true love. All it wants is for something to stop. All it wants is for something to change. All the worried mind wants is for everything that looks like disorder to come back into order — on its terms.

I immediately thought, “This is not about me worrying about people. This is me worrying about money.”

My mind was blown when I understood the idea that worrying about money is me trying to control money and my relationship with it.

If you have ever worried about money, can you feel the truth in the idea that what you wanted was the money circumstances to change? That the chaos and fear you were feeling about money was because you wanted things to be back in order … under control?

If I am not worrying, then what am I doing instead?

Liz Gilbert suggests that to move away from worry and control you need to send love instead. Love to people, love to your career, love to your circumstances, and love to money.

How do you send love to money? Follow these 5 steps.

1. Recognize that you are in partnership with money. That money needs you to be its conduit in the physical world and money is how you create things in the physical world. Opportunities, a lifestyle, solutions to problems (like a leaky roof) etc.

2. Send love to money in the form of appreciation. “Money, I appreciate how you provide for me and my family.”

3. Give gratitude to money. “Money, I am grateful for the ease in which I can buy the things I want and need with you as the vehicle”.

4. Be generous with money. Money wants to keep moving. Its mission is to move around and through people in service. When you share $1 or $10,000 you are not only serving money but you serve yourself. LET ME BE CLEAR. The $10,000 might be in the form of a new roof. It does not only mean through tithing or donating. You are allow it to flow through you and be used as it wills.

5. Make a clear statement that you are releasing your control of money by no longer worrying about it. You might THINK about it but you no longer worry about it. You trust in your partnership with money. You know you are both working together for each other’s benefit.

What, me worry?

To sum things up. To release worry about money (or anything) remind yourself that you are in partnership with money. You love each other. You care, support, respect and are there for one another.

Send loving thoughts to money and watch the rewards meant for you come with ease.

No worry required.
