Recently I have been re-reading a book called “It’s Not Your Money” by Tosha Silver. I first read “Outrageous Openness” by Tosha several years ago and then her book “Change Me Prayers” and knew she was a kindred spirit.
Her spiritual approach to life resonates with my Soul.
In reading “It’s Not Your Money”, one of the biggest messages I got was the idea that everything is created through us. We do not have to “DO” anything in order for wonderful things to come into our lives.
Amazon give this summary of the book:
“It’s natural to crave prosperity. Some seek to manifest it in myriad ways–using anything from vision boards to writing a pretend check for a million dollars from the Bank of Divinity. Yet whatever comes, or doesn’t, the mind always seems to want more.
But what if there was a whole other way? Instead of grasping and chasing, what if we offered everything–our money (or lack of it), our triumphs, our problems, our desires–fully back to Love? What if this offering itself was actually the secret to abundance?”
Though this book may seem to be about money, the concepts can be applied to EVERY area of your life… to that debt you have, your desire for a new car, your good and bad relationships, any and all hopes, dreams and fears.
And it applies to your career.
You do not have to DO anything to have the career you love.
I know that seems crazy and it does not mean that you sit on the couch and never act, it means that you do not have to worry, fret, strive, work into all hours of the night, apply to every job, call every connection, hire a coach or redo your resume.
Doesn’t that feel so much more peaceful already?
Change MY for THE
In the “Money” book, Tosha says the first step in offering is to take away the word MY and replace it with THE.
MY Career becomes THE career.
MY job search becomes THE job search.
MY boss becomes THE boss.
Just by changing out MY for THE, space is created. Then you simply offer your career, angst, fear, job search, next work project, that next meeting with your boss or problem employee, your to-do list etc. to the Divine, Love, God, and wait for the next right action (or non-action step) to arise.
THE blog as an Offering
A few days before I begin to write what I am thinking about as MY next blog, I will feel my chest tighten.
Then my head has thoughts like, “I will never have another thing to say, no one is going to resonate with what I write, why do I bother with this anyhow, who do you think you are?”
Fear and self-doubt. More chest tightening. Perhaps popcorn bingeing.
All signs that it is time to offer the blog, which, per Tosha, is not mine anyhow, to the Divine.
I simply state that I know this blog does not belong to me. I asked to be opened up to the words that want to be written.
I feel my chest open up. I feel peace entering my body.
I relax and wait for what feels like my next right action.
A voice might say, take a walk.
Or maybe, clean the dishes or weed the garden.
And the next thing I know, as I am weeding, an idea for what to write about comes to me.
Have you felt the same tightening in your chest when you think about advancing your career or conducting a job search?
What is the thing that is causing you’re the most angst in your career right now? Is it a project that is not going as smoothly as you would like, a boss or teammate you just are not seeing eye-to-eye with, a career that seems to be going nowhere, a low-level ongoing pressure, a general feeling of blah?
Whatever it is offer it up.
Step 1: Replace MY career, MY job search, MY boss with THE.
Step 2: Say this: I offer THE (fill in the blank) to you, the Divine. I ask that the best right steps to resolving THE issue be shown to me.
Step 3: Sit back and relax. Wait for a tug, a voice, a lyric on the radio. Some inspiration will come, and you will know just what to do (or not do) next…
Do you feel the tug to talk about the next right steps in
THE career path you are on?
