If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I am firmly in the camp that our thoughts create our reality. And Einstein believed the same thing.
Yep. Me and Einstein.
What Einstein Said
Einstein has been quoted as saying, โWe cannot solve problems at the same level of thinking that we were at when we created those problems.โ
This led me to an epiphany.
In the Mindset Methodโข that I use in my coaching, I teach that under (almost) every feeling there is a thought. And from the thought and corresponding feeling we take actions that create certain results.
If you are happy with your results and how your career is going then great. Keep thinking those thoughts, feeling those feelings, and taking those actions. But, if you are not happy with how things are going, Einstein suggests that you need to change your thoughts (which will naturally change your feelings) about the problem BEFORE you take action on possible solutions.
This is not what normally happens.
When we think something is a problem, we will often feel a level of anxiety. Then we take action from this anxiety. No surprise that the results are often less than ideal. The solutions were conceived from a place of anxiety, fear, worry, self-doubt โฆ you name it.
Instead, lean into your Einstein genius. You take no action from a place of fear or worry. Relax and first change your thoughts (and the corresponding feeling) then ask yourself what actions you feel compelled to take.
And โฆ another bonus of leaning into your Einstein genius is that rather than be in the narrow focus of fear you have opened yourself up to even more and better ideas, alternative solutions, and expanded possibilities!
Creating better career outcomes from a relaxed state
If you have reached a plateau in your career or are struggling on your job search become like Einstein and refuse to solve the problem from the level of thinking that created it. Try this instead:
1. Write down the thoughts you are having about your problem
2. Find new thoughts that create a better feeling in your body
3. Then decide what actions you want to take to solve the problem
Watch out you freaky genius. People will be asking how you got to be so smart!
