I recently got some bad news. Something I had been counting on fell apart.

When I found out, the energy drained out of me.

There was a part of me that just wanted to get back to work and “deal with the disappointment later” but because I believe (and teach as a coach) that we have access to all kinds of support and guidance outside of the physical world if we ask for it, I decided not to wait. I went ahead and asked for help from my Spiritual Board of Advisors (my name for my spiritual support system), AND had decided I would follow any advice it gave me.

I said, “I am feeling disappointed, sad and am starting to blame myself for what happened. This is not feeling great. I call on you, my Spiritual Board of Advisors, for guidance. What is my next best step right now?”

The first thing I felt was that I needed to stop working on top of what I was feeling. I needed to let the tears flow for a couple of minutes. This release calmed me down. I felt less worried and anxious.

Then, almost instantly, I had the inner nudge to say one of my favorite mantras out loud.

Laurie, you are always, always, always loved.

Laurie, you are safe and held.

Laurie, you are supported and guided.

Laurie, you are never, never, never alone.

Letting my feelings out and saying uplifting words did the trick.

My circumstances had not changed but I was reminded that all is well even when I experience disappointment.

I’m Fine. How are you?

I get it, it feels silly to ask for help from your Spiritual Board of Advisors. It seems a bit nuts to pull an Oracle Card and see the advice it might have for you. It seems illogical to think that answers to your problems can come from places other than your rational mind.

How is it possible that our intuition is as reliable as the data we see on the screen?

Our Spiritual Board of Advisors can be accessed in many ways and can respond in many modalities – signs, coincidences, synchronicities, an overwhelming need to cry, or a nudge to say positive words out loud.

How Kristen Wiig Got Career Advice From Her Expanded Self!

Not long after I repeated my mantra, I got in my car and there was an NPR interview in progress with Kristen Wiig, the actress who was on Saturday Night Live for 7 years and the co-writer and star of Bridesmaids among many other acting credits.

In the interview, Kristen told 2 very interesting spiritual miracle stories.

She was at a crossroads. She was not sure what she was supposed to be doing in her career. She had been an art major at the University of Arizona and had her first job lined up to work for a plastic surgery clinic drawing post-surgery bodies. (Nope. I did not know that was a thing either.)

She just wasn’t feeling it.

One day, she stood in front of a mirror and decided to ask herself what she was supposed to be doing in her career.

In the interview, Kristen said she believed that when you ask yourself something in the mirror, your reflection will not lie to you.

She said something like, “Kristen, if you could do whatever you wanted in your career what would that be?

Her reflection responded, “You would be in LA acting.”

This surprised her. She had only taken one acting class in college to fulfill her degree requirement. Acting as a career was not on her radar screen.

Though a part of her felt the truth in what her reflection said, and she loved the idea of moving to LA and becoming an actor, her rational mind had other thoughts like, “You have a job you are going to be starting soon. Your parents are excited about your career path. Everyone wants to be an actor; it is too hard to think you could make a living doing that.”

So she did nothing.

The day before she was set to start at the plastic surgery clinic she went to a new age bookstore. At the store, a psychic said he would give her a ten-minute reading for $10.

Why not?

Kristen paid her $10 and sat down. The psychic looked at her and one of the first things he said was, “What are you still doing here? You should be in LA acting and writing.”

That was all the confirmation she needed. Kristen said she went home, packed her bags, and drove to LA. She didn’t even tell her parents. Her instincts knew that she could not give herself any reason to talk herself, or let others talk her out of her dream.

Why! Because your career dreams need you to manifest!

Try This: Sometime this week:

  • Stand in front of your bathroom mirror.
  • Take a few deep breaths.
  • Gaze lovingly at YOU.
  • Ask yourself, “What am I meant to be doing in my career?
  • Receive the guidance and act on it in some way.

I would love to hear what your Expanded Self told you. Send me an email, or show up at next week’s LinkedIn live and share what you heard. The link to the Live is HERE!

Let your career become the story you cannot wait to tell others about, not a story of regret!
